With a minute of silence after the late Dragan Sakan, the guru of the East European advertising scene started the otherwise exciting program of the 17th Golden Drum, the international advertising festival and media meeting. The highlight of the program was surely the great speech of Sir John Hegarty where he stated the 10 reasons why this is the best time to be in advertising (let me know if you want to have them).
TODAY AT GOLDEN DRUM
Hegarty’s thoughts on life and work in marketing communication will be proceed today by the chairman of McCann Worldgroup, John Dooner, chief creative officer of Leo Burnett Worldwide, Mark Tutssel and their chairman and CEO for Continental Western Europe, Giorgio Brena. Cezar Montes will speak about the future of the business. Christian Kurz from Discovery will present the results of the research among 30.000 men from 21 countries. Mike Haas and Wolfram Tech will talk about the radio, Pawel Nižinski about social energy brand people. At 4 pm there will be results from the pitch by Slovenian Tourist Organization, Bank of Tourist Potentials of Slovenian and the Faculty Turistica who were searching for innovate marketing solutions for greener tourism.

FIRST AWARD CEREMONY (AND THE PRESS CONFERENCE BEFORE IT – AT 6 PM)
At 9 pm there will be the Golden Drum Open Awards Ceremony for groups Interactive, Media, Advertising Campaigns, Design & Art Directions, PR and Piran Portoroz Poster competition awards.
All five presidents of the jury of those categories are invited to the press conference at 6 pm in the Press Room at the 11th floor of the GH Bernardin. You will meet Olivier Altman, Pubicis (advertising campaigns), Yonathan Dominitz, Mindscapes (media), Bram de Rooij, Euro RSCG (interactive), Roger Kennedy, Saatchi & Saatchi (design in art direction and Piran Portoroz Poster Award) and Eliza Rogalski, Tempo (PR). You will also get the results of the winners (embargoed until 11 pm).
HALL OF FAME
After 17 years the Golden Drum started the Hall of Fame. On the marble wall of Bernardin’s Congress Hall where we are meeting year by year, names of men of merit will be engraved for time immemorial. Their names will be given to you at the press conference at 6 pm. We will raise glasses to them one hour later, at 7 pm.
NATIONAL PARTIES
After the award ceremony, at 10.30 pm in the ground floor of the GH Bernardin, at the Aurora Terrace and Tropic Bar there will be a reception for the winner (and everyone else), followed by the national parties in Piran: Hungarian party in Café Teater, Austrian stand and Macedonian party in Confini Bar.
