Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London Christmas Concert
Tchaikovsky and Carols
Part of Christmas at Cadogan 2014
Programme:
• Chris Petrie – Christmas Carol Fantasia (world premiere)
• Maurice Ravel – Mother Goose Suite
• P.I. Tchaikovsky – Violin Concerto; Remus Azoitei, violin, Chris Petrie, conductor
Join the PCOL for a Christmas celebration that can be enjoyed by the whole family! The concert opens with the world premiere of Petrie’s Christmas Carol Fantasia that includes well-known carols from across the world in a new arrangement for orchestra. Ravel’s Mother Goose follows, featuring a collection of colourful miniatures written for different scenes from literature for children, such as Sleeping Beauty, The Fairy Garden and Little Tom Thumb.
The concert closes with Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto; perhaps the grandest violin concerto of them all, featuring the sweeping melodies and hair-raising climaxes that make Tchaikovsky one of the most loved composers of all time. We are delighted that Remus Azoitei joins us as soloist; Remus is Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy of Music and has performed internationally as a soloist with many leading orchestras, including the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Orchestre National de Belgique and Deutsches Kammerorchester.
Remus is now in possession of a 1734 Antonio Stradivari violin, the so-called “Willemotte”, and is ready to share with you the enormous joy of playing on such an amazing instrument!
This Christmas concert is very popular so we recommend that you book tickets early to avoid disappointment!
