New video game Gran Turismo 6 will for the first time enable motorsport fans to race a virtual Ford GT supercar on the legendary Goodwood Hill Climb.
The 205 mph (330 km/h) icon is one of the stars of the latest instalment of the successful Gran Turismo video game franchise that also offers race fans the chance to get behind the wheel of Mustangs, Focus STs and exotic Ford race and rally cars through the ages.
Goodwood’s renowned 1.16 miles (1.86 kilometres) hill climb is the centrepiece of the British stately home’s annual Festival of Speed that runs from July 11-14 and is now celebrating its twentieth year. PlayStation is offering festival-goers the chance to experience a demonstration version of GT6™ on Gran Turismo pods.
“What red-blooded race fan could resist thrashing a 550 PS Ford GT on one of the world’s most famous hill climbs,” said Anthony Ireson, marketing director, Ford of Britain. “It’s incredibly realistic, great fun and there are no expensive repair bills if you get it wrong.”
Also at the Festival of Speed, the Formula Ford inspired road-registered single-seater FF1 will make its competitive debut with a series of timed hill climbs. Powered by Ford’s tiny 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, FF1 has already recorded the 11th fastest ever time at the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, Germany, with a time of 7 minutes and 22 seconds.
“I love the challenge of the Hill Climb and the rally stage,” said Gran Turismo producer and racing driver Kazunori Yamauchi. “Goodwood represents every type of motoring and motor sport which very much mirrors what we aim to achieve with Gran Turismo.”
