VIER PFOTEN, the animal protection organization, is encouraging people to spare a thought for animals in laboratories this festive season, by having a cruelty-free Christmas.
Over 3 million animals are used each year in British laboratory experiments, including dogs, cats, rabbits and hamsters. Unlike our family companions who will be spending a cosy Christmas curled up in front of the fire or sneaking treats from the dining room table animals in laboratories will be spending Christmas in a sterile laboratory without love or kindness. The only gift they’ll get this year is that they might get a break from experiments over the seasonal holiday.
With the help of Vier Pfoten, you can remember these animals by having a cruelty-free Christmas.
Here’s 6 simple things you can do to help:
– Making sure your gifts are cruelty-free is a great way to celebrate the Christmas season and tell friends and family to make a pledge to only purchase cruelty-free products such as LUSH or those endorsed by the Leaping Bunny Logo
– Write a letter to the editor of your local paper this season and encourage others to follow our cruelty-free Christmas ideas
– Sign up for to our newsletter and become our friend on Facebook to be kept informed of our important work
– Make room for all those presents you will be getting, by selling any unwanted items and give the proceeds to a charity like VIER PFOTEN campaigning against animal testing
– Stuck for a gift idea? Consider making a donation to VIER PFOTEN on behalf of someone
Says Marie-Claire Macintosh, FOUR PAWS: “As we all look forward to Christmas, let’s spare a thought for the millions of animals in laboratories for whom Christmas will be just another day of suffering. Christmas is a time for love and compassion, so making sure your presents are cruelty-free is a great way to celebrate.”
