Warm welcome at Golden Drum
Yesterday, 5 October 2011, the 18th Golden Drum Festival started that will for four days host some of the best professionals of creative industry. In the evening, new names were added on the marble wall of Golden Drum New Europe Hall of Fame in Grand Hotel Bernardin: Jure Apih and Meta Dobnikar have, for their long term effort and contribution to the development of Golden Drum Festival, received their honorary place in the company of other names on the wall: Adrian Botan, Ivan Čimburov, Michael Conrad, Jan Mariusz Demner, Jiri Mikeš, Milka Pogliani, Daniel Ružička, Dragan Sakan († 3. 10. 2010), Juraj Vaculik, Vital Verlič, Darek Zatorski and Jarek Ziebinski.
“Jure Apih and Meta Dobnikar have put Golden Drum Festival on the map of the World’s most prominent and important advertising festivals”, said Barbara Krajnc, Executive Director of Golden Drum Festival at this special occasion. “This is a recognition for the years of work in creating and developing the Golden Drum Festival as it represents an outstanding value and importance, not only for the advertising profession in Slovenia, but also internationally.”

First day 18th Golden Drum
At 9.00 the first screenings of the entries from 37 countries, competing in this year’s competition, were performed. Pawel Nizinski, CEO Goodbrand & Company has in his lecture exposed the importance of marketing 3.0 and new trends of today’s consumers: consumers are active, they consume differently, they are “green” partners, time tested, always connected and tend to everyday spirituality. This lecture was followed by interesting debate moderated by Michael Conrad, president of the Berlin School of Creative Leadership with the help of Adrian Botan, Chairman of New Europe Creative Council / Executive Creative Director, McCann Romania, Uroš Goričan, Creative Strategist, Saatchi&Saatchi Ljubljana and Lucija Tarbajovska, Co-Founder Brand Academy. They talked about what is the best strategy for leading creative excellence, how can an effective leadership strategy improve the performance of business, should strategy influence which clients one works for and how to work with them? Jeanette Liendo, Global Director, Microsoft, Corporate Marketing Group focused on how New Europe is the new big opportunity for social networking consumer marketers. She thinks that Turkey, Poland, Ukraine and Russia are the biggest future spenders in B2B and B2C social networking markets.
Interesting and diverse Golden Drum Festival Program, shaped in the image of festivals main theme New Europe, New Thinking will in the four festival days offer 30 lectures, 4 panels and 5 workshops where this year’s participants will be able to listen to more than 50 speakers.
Portorož Piran Poster Award Exhibition
Until Saturday, 8 October, Tartini Square in Piran will be the host of the 24 shortlisted posters of the Off Drum Competition, Piran Portorož Poster Award. The winner of Off Drum Competition will be announced on Saturday, 8 October, at the evening Multi Channel Awards Ceremony and Festival Closing Gala.
Golden Drummers Get-together
First party, where old acquaintances met with new faces on Golden Drum Festival, was held on the terrace of Aurora in Grand Hotel Bernardin. Lovro Ravbar with his saxophone warmed everyone with the help of DJ Maj. Lively ambience continued for several hours with the electronic rhythms that kept everyone awake until the end.
